Welcome to Liebstein
A Castle full of Dance, Arts and Meditation

We are transforming an enchanted historical estate in the far east of Germany into a Tango Castle – a place that brings people from all over the world together. Amidst nature, art, and history, we celebrate and live the captivating culture of the Tango Argentino.
Dancers, musicians, artists, and anyone seeking creative and spiritual exchange will soon find a unique meeting place here, far from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life.
Our program spans festivals and milongas, yoga, classes, concerts, and workshops, as well as readings, theater, and hiking adventures. Liebstein is tango – and so much more.
A Dance Through Time
The former Rittergut Liebstein is a historic estate near the charming city of Görlitz, with a rich and eventful past.
Once a grand, four-sided manor with elegant parks, blooming gardens, workshops, stables full of horses and cattle, and vast fields and forests, the estate still bears the marks of its former grandeur. The 300-year-old manor house,
a spacious vaulted barn, and an overgrown landscape of plants and trees – all of it waits to be brought back to life.
Though the traces of history are visible everywhere at Liebstein, with care and dedication, we are determined to revive the magic of this special place.
The old manor house becomes a guesthouse with cozy accommodations, a small café, and a large communal kitchen where we cook, eat, and share stories together.
Its many rooms open up for yoga, workshops, studios, and all forms of creative expression. Digital nomads will find ideal conditions here to work on their projects in peace, far from the noise and distractions of city life.
The large stone terrace invites you to evening barbecues, wine-drinking, and engaging conversations.
A 300 m² dance floor transforms the impressive vaulted barn into a perfect ballroom for the most beautiful milongas under the stars.
The vast, untamed park, full of birdsong and rare plants, will become a fragrant garden with flowers, fruit trees, meadows, and vegetable beds. A small pond invites you to stroll or fish, and the expansive pasture offers space for tents and campers. Families with children and dogs – even donkeys and horses – are warmly welcome!
The gentle hills, fields, and forests of the Lower Silesian Upper Lusatia region invite you to go on long walks and hikes. Weary pilgrims traveling the Via Regia, a section of the Camino de Santiago that passes directly through the estate, are always welcome to rest at Dance Castle Liebstein.

This is us
Chris and Anke

Chris Peake and Anke Michaelis
—two passionate lovers of Tango Argentino and two free-spirited minds, unafraid to bridge oceans and eras to truly build something together.
Where else but on a tango dance floor in Buenos Aires could we have met for the first time?
Despite coming from different worlds—Chris, an experienced Tango teacher and sailing instructor, raised in England and enjoying a splendid life on the Californian Coast, and Anke, a cultural communications manager from southern Germany with a surprising family history steeped in tradition—we refused to let distance keep us apart. After bravely meeting in different places on both sides of the Atlantic again and again, it took just one visit to Anke’s long-abandoned former family estate, Gutshaus Liebstein, to know exactly what we had to do: unite here and create a home for friends, creatives, and tango lovers from around the world.
And so, in May 2025, we are ready to change everything in our lives. Chris will take his beloved dog Sasha across the ocean, transforming her into a true castle dog, surrounded by music, friends, and flowers. And for Anke, this marks the long-awaited moment to finally fulfill her lifelong dream—to restore and revive the castle of her ancestors.
Summer 2025:
